Dr Naledi Pandor, Chairperson of the Nelson Mandela Foundation and former Cabinet minister, joined Ashraf Garda on The National Pulse on SAFM on 15 May 2025 to discuss the future role of business in national development. The conversation followed her keynote address at the 2025 Trialogue Business in Society Conference, where she unpacked the topic ‘Unlocking impact: Business and the next chapter of development’.

In the interview, Dr Pandor emphasised a paradigm shift in corporate social investment, with companies adopting a more strategic approach. No longer, she argued, should CSI be viewed merely as charity or goodwill. Instead, it must be strategically aligned with national development goals and the intentions of nonprofit organisations, focusing on reducing poverty, unemployment and inequality. Her insights challenged the private sector to rethink its contributions as long-term investments in social transformation, rather than short-term acts of benevolence.
