Siviwe Gwarube is the Minister of Basic Education. She has been a member of Parliament, representing the Democratic Alliance, since May 2019. Before her appointment as Minister of Basic Education, she was chief whip of the official opposition with a focus on maximising the functioning and impact of Parliament to better serve South Africans. Prior to this role, she served as the DA’s shadow minister of health. During her time in Parliament, Minister Gwarube has championed greater accountability and executive oversight. She has introduced various amendments to the rules of the National Assembly to strengthen its hand in fighting corruption and improving service delivery.
