
Dr Elmarie Pereira is CEO of Memeza Shout NPO, a South African GBV activist and community safety leader driven by personal loss after her sister’s murder. With 25 years’ experience in telecommunications and programme management, and over 12 years in GBV prevention, she co-founded Memeza with Founder Dr Thuli Mthethwa. Memeza currently leads the FirstRand Empowerment Foundation’s national GBVF flagship programme and is working closely with the CEO Accelerator Volunteer Programme to develop a unique youth-focused GBV and early pregnancy prevention guide for girls and boys, which will be distributed and made available digitally to thousands of secondary-school learners. In 2025, Elmarie received a UN humanitarian award and an honorary doctorate.
