Vodacom foundation: CSI strategy review

Date of work: 2026
“The Trialogue team did excellent work. Their consultative approach and strong deliverables enabled robust discussions within the team. The revised strategy was well received by the board, and some aspects of the strategy are currently being implemented.”
Angela Abrahams, Executive Head, Vodacom Foundation
The Vodacom Foundation has a credible and well-established programme that promotes education and gender empowerment using the company’s core capabilities in technology. Vodacom has been voted as the company with the highest developmental impact by other companies for nine consecutive years in Trialogue’s research. It has also been voted the top company by nonprofits.
The Vodacom Foundation undertakes a strategy review every five years. In 2026, the Foundation engaged Trialogue to evaluate its existing strategy, facilitate internal consultation to revise the strategy, and assist with implementation planning for the updated CSI strategy (2026 – 2020).
Trialogue facilitated a collaborative process with the Vodacom Foundation team to create a refined strategy. Activities included:
- Interviewing 13 internal and external stakeholders about their views on the current Foundation strategy and programme as well as expectations for the future.
- Mapping 18 Foundation projects on the Trialogue CSI Positioning Matrix according to their developmental and business benefits.
- Assessing the existing strategy and programmes against the Trialogue Integrated Social Impact Framework to determine how they are integrated with the core business and how the elements of the programme combine effectively to ensure optimal social impact.
- Facilitating a workshop structured according to the Trialogue CSI Strategy Review Framework which covers six broad topics, and 20 sub-topics, that make up a CSI strategy.
The revised strategy details the Foundation’s intention to extend its influence beyond site-based interventions towards broader systemic impact. Trialogue assisted the Foundation team to develop a comprehensive strategy implementation plan, which is being rolled out in 2026 and beyond.
